The defendant, a taxi driver, was waiting for a booked passenger when he encountered a drunken passerby kicking his vehicle. In trying to stop this, the defendant was instead accused of Assault. The problem was that, although the defendant's actions arose from the purpose of protecting his vehicle, the other party claimed to have been 'assaulted' and demanded criminal punishment.

Using CCTV footage that allowed the situation to be reconstructed and the statements given when the Police arrived, I proved that the defendant's actions were nothing more than 'light physical contact' aimed at protecting his vehicle. In particular, the circumstances showing that the victim struck the defendant first, and the scene in which the defendant fell on his own while calling for help, supported the defensive nature of his conduct. The court held that the defendant's actions were justifiable conduct not contrary to social norms, akin to self-defense, and acquitted him. In an era when conflicts quickly escalate into criminal punishment, I fight against the risk of wrongful accusations and will stand in court to the end for those who have been wronged.
